The Butcher's Market - A Treasure In Varnell, GA
For those of us who live in the small community of Varnell, GA - located just north of Dalton - The Butcher's Market has turned out to be a real treasure!
My husband and I get our steaks there (think nice thick ribeye) - I like my steak to moo a little from my plate yet still be nice and charred on the outside, and you just can't get that when it's cut too thin.
And steak isn't all they have! When my sister and her family come to visit from Orlando, we always make a trip to The Butcher's Market - we tell them to get whatever they want - and believe me, THEY DO - we usually have an assortment of steak, chicken, chops - whatever they see that looks good! We take it all back home, throw it on the grill, and toss some Twice-Baked Potatoes in the oven - yes, The Butcher's Market has those too, and they're delicious!
You can see that we tend to pick up more food than we can possibly eat, but sometimes we go completely crazy and add dessert - cheesecake, cannoli, brownies - it's all awesome. Yes, it's a feast! And a good thing they only visit once or twice a year!
Still, The Butcher's Market is a regular stop for me - whether it's to cook out or just to pick up something for lunch - pimiento cheese or chicken salad - or to get something for an easy supper, like some oven-ready meatloaf or stuffed pork chops.
You can also buy in bulk and get some good deals. But you really need to visit The Butcher's Market yourself - they're located at 3619-A Cleveland Highway in Varnell - or you can start with a visit to their Website or Facebook page.
Hungry yet? I think they're open till 6 today!!!

Tough Times in Dalton GA Aren't Over
The headline in Thursday's paper read like this: "Area Jobless Rate Hits 13.1%" Underneath the headline read: "Highest unemployment in all state metro areas"
OK -- that kind of news will stop you ...in your tracks -- but at the same time, that means we may have the greatest room for improvement -- when you sink that low, you can rise that much higher!!! We've done it before -- anyone who has been in the community 20 or 30 years has seen things bad before. BUT -- we're tough, resilient, and we'll make it!!! Have a wonderful weekend, everybody, and let's not take the media TOO seriously!!!
